Draught of Peace — Adagio Teas

The Draught of Peace is a potion which relieves anxiety and agitation. Its ingredients are powdered moonstone, syrup of hellebore, powdered porcupine quills, Valerian root, and powdered unicorn horn. It should be a turquoise blue when finished and simmered before being drunk. It is ironically a difficult potion to make, requiring that the brewer follow the directions carefully because making a mistake can have drastic consequences. Adding too much of the ingredients, for instance, will put the drinker of the potion into a deep — and possibly irreversible — sleep.

Ingredients: black tea, apple pieces, natural apricot flavour, natural creme flavour, marigold flowers, apricots, natural vanilla flavour

The teas used to create this blend are: apricot, cream and vanilla, accented with marigold flowers.

Draught of Peace is one of the blends in the Magic Potions sampler box by Adagio Teas. It is chock full of apricots and tastes every bit as good as it smells. Bright and bold, and yet somehow calming and soothing, it is a joy to drink.

As someone with a sweet tooth, I always need sugar in black tea, but this is actually perfectly drinkable without it, but not really to my taste. With demerara, it is pretty amazing and adding a little milk or cream takes it to a different level again, adding a smoothness to the overall taste although at the moment I prefer to drink it black.

This is definitely one for a leisurely afternoon and I can (and did this afternoon) happily drink multiple cups of it without it becoming overwhelming. It also tastes pretty good when cold (always a bonus for me), although I’m not sure about this when it has milk in it.

Personally, I wouldn’t drink it in the late afternoon or evening as I try to keep away from caffeine but according to reviews on the Adagio website, it’s very popular for relaxing and unwinding despite its high caffeine content.

Adagio recommend brewing this tea for 3 minutes and I would agree with that, or maybe just a little longer. If you leave it for too long it can make it quite bitter, but I’ve found that adding milk diminishes the bitterness considerably.
