Bluebird Tea Co. Advent Calendar — Day 20 — Mince Pie tea bag



The third ghost is apparently of Christmas Future  —  Mince Pie.



Ingredients: Sri Lankan black tea, cinnamon, almond pieces, orange peel, pomegranate flowers, natural flavouring.

They describe it thus:

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without homemade mince pies- surely the staple of the festive season? (and everyone knows puff pastry is the best!). Guilt-free, gently spiced + deliciously sweet, great with or without milk! So curl up in a warm duvet and sip on this inspired blend, before Santa gets his hands on it! 

I have to admit that I don’t like mince pies but as this tea bag contains no ingredients I dislike I will be trying it as it sounds far nicer than its namesake. However, as it’s black tea, I can’t drink it in the evening otherwise I won’t get any sleep. I was intending to try it today at work, but unfortunately, I was extremely busy so didn’t get the chance. Therefore, I shall have to return with a review for this tomorrow.

I presume the fact that this is a Christmas Future ghost rather than a Christmas Past one means that this will be a Limited Edition tea next year.

 UPDATE

 So, I tried this tea today and it's not really to my taste. This isn't surprising given my dislke of mince pies, but it isn't undrinkable by any means.

 I tried it on its own at first, but having a sweet tooth I felt it was better with a teaspoon of demerara. Adding some milk made it even more like a mince pie as the pastry flavour was revealed and it tasted pretty much like I imagine a mince pie tastes like - it's been about 45 years since I last had one so I can't really remember but it's certainly how I imagine it.

 If you like mince pies then I think you'll love this tea, it's just not for me.

Favourite Tea League Table (Updated 12 August 2017)

I thought it might be useful if I keep a league table of my top 10 favourite teas, going forward. This list reflects the favourites of those I've drunk recently rather than all-time favourites as I've discovered its very difficult to have an all time list when I'm trying so many different teas and what I like is affected by the weather or the time of year.  For instance, over Christmas and through the winter I drank enough Gingerbread Chai to sink a battleship (is that a thing?) and I would definitely have said it was my all time favourite tea. But at the moment I have no interest in drinking it at all because it seems to me that its the wrong time of year for it and so it's dropped from the top of the charts completely off the list. Oolong Formosa – Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Co.

Today’s tea is the truly delightful  Oolong Formosa by the  Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Co. Ingredients: Formosa Oolong tea They describe it thus: "Oolong Formosa is a Speciality Tea which originates from the mountains of Taiwan. After plucking the loose leaf teas are fermented to approximately 50% and then wilted in the sun. Frequent turning of the tea in bamboo baskets during the drying process allows the Oolong to develop a mild aroma and large wild curly leaves. This Loose Leaf Tea is a real treasure." This tea is quite unlike any other Oolong I have tried so far.  It is far darker than the Milky, Fleur d’ Orient or Vietnamese Oolongs, being brown rather than yellow in colour and the flavour, whilst extremely pleasant, is far more substantial than the traditional Oolong taste and reminds me more of a Yunnan tea.
