Bluebird Tea Co. Advent Calendar — Day 5 — Mojitea

Today’s tea bag contains a revelation — interested? It’s Mojitea.

.

Ingredients: Chinese green tea, peppermint, dried lime pieces, lemongrass, lime leaves

They describe it thus:

The Mojito, Cuban classic; the tipple of choice for Caribbean island folk, but we do it with tea instead — the top tipple of English island folk! Our version is just as refreshing but without the rum or the calories! To be enjoyed in the sunshine whichever island you may be on!

Today is the first review using my Moz the Monster mug, and I'm pleased to report that it is the perfect size for a tea bag.

So, I have to admit I wasn’t awfully excited when this tea bag was today’s gift. I have received one previously with an order and it went straight into the cupboard because it never really appealed to me, not even in the summer when it was a million degrees and I could have done with a nice refreshing drink.

When I got home this evening, I was cold, bone-tired and about ready to drop and to be honest, the last thing I really wanted was a cup of peppermint tea (I have spoken previously of my strong dislike of mint tea). However, as it was the day’s gift and I needed to do this review I really had no choice but to try it.

And I am so glad I did!

In the same way that I was completely blown away by G + Tea earlier in the year, this tea is so much better than I expected. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I dug out the other tea bag and I’ve used that too.

Despite what I’ve said above, the experience didn’t start all that well as the tea had the classic dead foliage and peppermint smell that I associate with mint tea (and green tea too, come to that), and the first couple of mouthfuls took a bit of getting used to. But as the tea cooled and I continued drinking, I realised that it was so much more than a mint tea.

Thanks to the addition of the lemongrass and lime this tea is lifted up and is a truly refreshing blend, and it gave me a real boost of energy too.

I made this tea as recommended for 3 minutes with 80-degree water and for once I didn’t use any sugar. This is rare for me, even with those teas that don’t traditionally have a sweetener with them, but this really didn’t need it.

This tea is also good cold, and will definitely make an awesome summer drink.
